A Comparison of migration crises of the European Union in 2015 and 2022 in terms of "push" and "pull" effects - A Comparative case study of migration trends
Fiala, Tomáš ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Földes, Kristián (referee)
in English The waves of migration from Syria in 2015 and from Ukraine in 2022 significantly affected the number of people who applied for asylum or temporary protection in the EU. In this work, these migration waves are compared through a pre-selected framework of the so- called "neoclassical theory" which operates on the basis of rational decision-making about migration as an "economic" calculation of risks, advantages and disadvantages (so-called "push" and "pull" factors and "intervening obstacles"). Through comparison, the work tries to answer the questions of the similarity of the two migration waves and, through their analysis, at the same time, the question of whether these waves influenced the Migration and Asylum Policy of the EU as such. Despite certain similarities in the political aspects of the comparison, the similarity of the two waves was not confirmed, however, a shift in the creation of the EU migration policy framework after the migration wave in 2015 was also confirmed.
Security aspects of migration and integration
MEZIANILI, Taťána
The submitted thesis deals with the issue of migration and integration and related security aspects. Theoretically maps and captures the current state of migration in the Czech Republic, both in the field of legal and illegal migration. It also focuses on the integration process as a key tool for a successful migration policy and the integration policy of the Czech Republic. Integration is being explored through a small community of Kabyle migrants. By analyzing the interviews, the thesis evaluates five basic areas of integration, which are knowledge of Czech, economic self-sufficiency, social orientation, relations between communities and gradual acquisition of rights depending on length of stay, according to "Updated Concept of Integration of Foreigners 2016 - In Mutual Respect". Through qualitative research and participatory observation, it reveals the shortcomings of Kabyl's integration into Czech society. Above all, the reluctance to learn the Czech language actively slows down the integration process among Kabyl migrants and places additional obstacles, both in the field of work and social. Subsequently, there is a feeling of undervaluation, frustration and general dissatisfaction with life in the Czech Republic. The integration limit is also the insufficient involvement of migrants in Czech society, where they prefer mutual contacts between themselves or other foreigners. Integration is not helped by the working environment of Kabyls, who work mainly together or with other foreigners. The motivation to obtain citizenship of the Czech Republic is also not very obvious.
An analysis of determinants of immigration to the CR.
Toušková, Daniela ; Fialová, Kamila (advisor) ; Vyležík, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is to introduce the issues of migration from the economic point of view based on data focused on the Czech Republic. There is only the net immigration analyzed in this thesis due to the lack of relevant data available for the emigration ones. The net immigration is represented by the difference of number of foreigners working in the CR legally. There is a linear regression model used in this analysis and dependence of difference of number of foreigners working in CR on several economic variables is estimated by the ordinary least squares method. There are quarterly data collected in 2001-2009 used in the analysis. The results show that the largest impact on the growth of number of working foreigners has the growth of unemployment rate. This impact is negative, which corresponds to the economic theory presented in the theoretical part of this thesis. Other variables significant for the difference of number of foreigners are year-to-year difference of real wage and difference of real gross domestic income.

Irregular Migration in the Mediterranean Sea: The Role of Europol and European Migrant Smuggling Centre
Kozáková, Marie ; Ditrych, Ondřej (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the role of Europol and the EMSC in solving the migration crisis in the Mediterranean. As a result of the rising number of migrants arriving to Europe, crime rate has increased, mainly smuggling of illegal migrants, which required swift and effective actions by European institutions and agencies. This study uses the theory of new institutionalism which reflects the interest in the study of institutions that have a significant impact on formation of attitudes and behavior of institutional stakeholders. The aim is to analyze the process of institutionalization among the European stakeholders in response to the migration crisis from 2015 till 2019. The process of institutionalization includes political debates by EU officials and documents issued by the European Commission that have contributed to the reorganization within Europol and emergence of new platforms. By analyzing these individual steps, the thesis aims to present the role of individual institutional elements in dealing with criminal activities related to illegal migration and how these elements ensure security within the European area.
(Il)legal migration and the role of marriages of conveniece when gaining residence permit for third-country members in the Czech Republic focusing on Czech-Muslim marriages
Davidová, Markéta ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Marešová, Jarmila (referee)
Migration offers a spectrum of illegal channels through which migrants enter their target countries. Marriages of convenience are one of these ways. Specifically this means marrying a foreigner who has no residence status or has a lower one than their partner they are marrying. Their partner may be the citizen of their target country or also a foreigner, however, having a higher residence status. People entering such marriages misuse the marriage institute in order to obtain a legal residence in the given country. The objective of the diploma thesis is thus illegal migration through marriages between nationals coming from third countries of the Muslim world and people living in the area of the Czech Republic. Subsequently, foreigners obtain the status of a family member, of an EU citizen, and together with that the right of a free residence and movement within the EU. The general aim of the research was to compare two categories of these foreigners who were looking for the entry into the Czech Republic based on a short-term visa. One category consisted of visa applicants who succeeded in their applications, and those whose applications were refused due to a detected circumvention of the immigration law in the form of a marriages of convenience. Both groups were compared based on chosen indicators...
